Call for performers. First Annual Butch Voices Fundraiser (Portland, OR)

In case you haven’t heard, August 20th-23rd in San Francisco, CA, there will be the first ever Butch Voices Conference. This is the first of it’s kind and so far, appears to be a huge success. They have drawn attention from all over the nation and expect butches, studs, aggressive, ands bois from all over the world to be attending.

What is Butch Voices? We are woman-identified Butches. We are trans-masculine Studs. We are faggot-identified Aggressives. We are noun Butches, adjective Studs and pronoun-shunning Aggressives. We are she, he, hy, ze, zie and hir. We are you, and we are me. The point is, we don’t decide who is Butch, Stud or Aggressive. You get to decide for yourself.

Butch Voices is dedicated to creating a positive and accepting environment for those identifying along the spectrum of Butches, Studs, and Aggressives, in part by selecting programming that will respect our differences, yet create opportunities for discussion. We hope to bring together people of various identities and backgrounds, inclusive of our differences, to create safe space to discover, discuss, examine, and deconstruct our concept of self and others.

Between New York and San Francisco, there has been many fundraisers for the 1st annual Butch Voices. Well let’s add Portland to the list of supporters. On July 30, 2009, at Egyptian Club, there will be a Butch Voices fundraiser. “Let’s Hear it for the Butch!”. We are currently looking for performers to help fund this ever so important conference. Whether you are a butch, femme, stud, boi, fierce femme, andro, FTM, MTF…..whether you’re a singer, dancer, actor, actress, drag king, drag queen, burlesquer, comic, bellydance. WE WANT YOU AND YOUR KICK-ASS TALENT!
